The rounded side of the nut goes toward the crank as the star washer is bent to the outside.
Install it with the sharp side in and you will spin the washer and remove the locator tab.
Put the 2 together in your hands and you will get the idea.
At present I've rebuilt apx. 50 engines so I know which side is out and why. .........lm
