White smoke from left side over 5k

I am just back on the road with my CB77 after a long period of downtime, and I am starting to go further and faster.

But I suddenly noticed that I am getting a considerable amount of white smoke out of the left side when I really open up on the throttle.

It kicks in about 5k, but I have to be accellerating. If I am cruising at 5k or above, then nothing.

I suspect people are going to tell me its the rings.

Compression is 155 on both sides, and I am pretty sure this is the orginal engine. Milage unknown.

After all I have been through with this bike, I hate to contemplate a top end rebuild.

But on the other hand, after a year of work, I am pot committed....

Any chance I could just be rich in the left carb? The left plug is pretty dark, but not black or wet or anything. Right plug more of a medium brown.

Richness would usually result in black smoke. Sounds like rings as you say. You might be able to get away with removing any glaze from the bores and a new set of rings.

If it's not too bad you can just carry on riding for a while. Eventually the oil will start fouling plugs.

I will probably pull the engine in December and hope to have it back on the road by March.

I wonder what it costs to ship from MD to TX.

Valves got me thinking, I am running the valves a little loose and they are making noise.

I wonder if an adjustment might help.

Valves were loose (.006) reset them to spec, but still real smoky and oil smell over 5k from left side.

Plug is very dry. Nothing suggesting oil at all. Conpression is unchanged at 155.

I am soliciting bids on a rebuild. The closer you are to DC, the better.
