OK--I believe in the centrifugal oil filter now!!

When I pulled my old filter it was very clean and I wondered how well the design worked. Today, I took apart my backup filter. It took a lot of effort to get the two sections apart. That was because there was 3/4" of black gritty sediment packed into the thing.

I guess they really work!!

They certainly do work. I've had similar experience!

When you say backup, do you mean a spare? That would be pretty cool for a "fast oil change." :)

I bought a second because the steel spindle on the first was worn down. Maybe a result of a misplaced thrust washer. But now that I think about it, it would make for a pretty quick oil change.

Of course, I never plan to go long enough between oil changes to have anything nasty build up inside.

I agree about not letting anything build up. But I figure, if you're going to change the oil often, it would be less of a chore to have a clean filter handy to swap in while the goo drains out. By the time the plug's ready to go back in you could have the oil filter cover back on and snug. :) I may just find me a spare to have on hand!

They certainly do something, as long particles don't have the same specific gravity as the oil you use.

So you are saying that it is important to only run a specific type of dirt in your engine??
