CB77 Engine Maintenance Problem

Post by Cameron » Mon Apr 23, 2007 6:34 pm

I disassembled my 305 engine in hopes of replacing the gaskets and piston rings but when I got to removing the cam chain to get to the valves, the engine was completely frozen and stuck; therefore, I could not reach the master link in the cam chain. I've tried re-attaching the kickstart but it still won't budge. The transmission seems fine and when I pull in the clutch lever, the engine kickstart turns as normal. I am completely at a loss for the cause of this problem. I had a working engine before, and now after trying to do a little routine maintenance...it is stuck. If anyone has any ideas or suggestions, please let me know.

It might just be lightly stuck. Pour something down the plug holes. I like a mix of ATF and kerosene. Let it sit a bit and try to turning it with the bolt that holds the rotor on. After it frees up make sure to drain whatever you put in the cylinders out of the engine.

I have now tried that and it is still stuck. I am afraid of stripping the rotor bolt. Is there any other possible culprit for this problem. It is really frustrating. Also,I bought a gasket kit and it did not include the gasket for the transmission cover. Does anyone know where I might find one?

When you split the case to get at the tranny only Honda Bond is used not a gasket. Are you talking about the left engine side cover(clutch cover)?I have reused the old gaskets when working on these if you are careful taking it off.I just used some Honda Bond on it.Also, I made one from gasket material.Keep us posted.

Ya say it was a working motor so I assume it did turn over before ya removed the top cover. Right?
Did ya remove the oil pump to look for the master link? Have ya removed the left side clutch cover? ..........lm
