Pan head screw 5 x 30Pan head screw 5 x 30I attempted to replace the points cover screws and the crank cover screws at my local hardware store. They appear to be around an 8 but the thread is different.
The parts list has the points cover screws as 5x30 and the dynamo cover as Other hex heads are listed such as the condenser holding screws are 5x12 . Are these metric? Are they machine size? What are they and how can I find some that do not look 46 years old. I did not find a thread about threads. Thank you very much George Arizona
Re: Pan head screw 5 x 30George, all screws on our bikes (with the exception of the M6 & M8, which are ISOmetric) are metric JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard. PM FAST FRED; he sometimes has them NOS. I just bought a set of JIS dyno and points cover stainless steel phillips head screws for my '67 CL77 from Ohio Cycle for $12.50, 5x16 (dyno) and 5x30 (points).
Not a big thing but I had to cut off about 4 threads for the dyno cover screw that mounts at the 2 o'clock postion because it was bottoming out. They don't exactly match the look of plated phillips screws but I like the durability of stainess in those locations.
