I just use the equalising file in my CB toolkit, Chase, then blast 'em with Air Duster (aerosol compressed air). Sounds like you T-Cut yours, once in a while(?)!☺

Fag paper between the points.

Pull gently as the motor is turned over and as the points start to break, the cigarette paper comes loose.

That assumes you can get fag papers at the local corner store to roll your own cigarettes.

Back to Nander's question about the screws. They should be tightened and then use a center punch to stake them so that they do not back out an cause damage.

I'll be interested to see/read what is found inside that starter and planetary gear set. I don't have a starter motor here, but I would have sworn it was (almost) impossible to turn the sprocket. Maybe I was just a ten stone weakling and guys like Steve were kicking sand in my face... Charles Atlas body building adverts from the sixties IIRC

I'm neither bone crusher nor beach-bully, I promise; 5'8", 92kg / 200lbs-ish, hung like a dormouse! I was surprised when I pulled the starter off and tried turning the sprocket; feels something like a 2:1 reduction, when observing the com, but that's just a guess.

Where's your homeland, Teazer? Not US, I reckon. Not with reference to 'fag papers'!

Home is where the heart is, so yes it's the US, but I was born and raised (or dragged up) in the UK before I migrated to Australia and hence to the US of A.

So when LM asks Location? this week may be different to next week. LOL

Well, so I tried that starter motor sprocket again after reading your experience e3steve. This time I was able to turn the motor in both directions. It just took more force than I had originally applied (and a firm grip rather than just thumb and forefinger) to twist it. So, I'll wait to hear back before I start dismantling it.
