Seat Foam

Post by Pedrom » Sat Dec 26, 2009 3:51 pm

New CA77 poster. I've read the posts but haven't seen this issue addressed. I have a perfectly good seat cover but the foam is dried out and quickly falling. Is there a source or special type of foam for a CA77 where I can rebuild it myself?

Seat Foam

Thanks for the response. I am going to get a quote at a local shop that does custom seats for hot rods and maybe have them replace the foam.

I have a local upholstery shop make the foam for me. It's not cheap, but no-one is casting these foams yet as they are for the Z50s and Honda SLs.

Thanks for the response. I'll soon see how expensive it is and report back.

Seat Foam update

Post by Pedrom » Thu Jul 22, 2010 1:09 pm

found a seat/convertible top shop that will cut the foam for me but I need to disassemble the old one for a template. That wasn't going to be fun since the foam is decomposing.
As an interim solution I've coated all the visible foam with a clear coat to keep it from sprinkling my bike with dots of red foam. It's worked so far.
I've now gotten my bike rideable and registered and having fun with it. I'm going to hold off the seat project till winter arrives.
See photo in CA77 section under - 22 Years...

I run an upholstery shop and working with foam is no fun task or quick. What I would charge to rebuild a seat would be more than it would cost to get a knock off seat from taiwan and just use their foam instead.
