Cylinde liner replacement

I have been away from 305s for 30+ years. I remember baking a cylinder to dry the new paint. The liners fell out. Didn't know they were coated. Maybe Mr. Honda used some thermal crease or compound to transfer the heat from the liners to the aluminum casting. Have not seen any liners on flea bay yet but I just started looking. 250 liners may be impossible to find. Won't know the condition of mine till I get the engine in the shop, soaked in Marvel Mystery Oil for 4 weeks. Will be taking the left cover off to rotate the crank, if it rotates.

Ok, so I was riding a 64 CB77 in 1966. Years ago there was a company called LA Sleeve, which I believe is still in business and which made replacement sleeves. You might want to check out what they can do for you if anyone needs replacements. They did some cool things like 750 kits for Yam XS650's and Nikasil aluminum liners for CB450 vintage racers.

As for heating cylinders, I picked up a lab oven at a surplus place. Its made by Fisher Scientific and is about 2/3 the size of a bar fridge so it fits in a shop nicely. Great for curing painted parts as well.

HONDA did coat the outside of the sleeves with something. I don't know what. I spray my new ones with clear KRYLON a couple of times than freeze them and heat the aluminum to apx. 200 degrees and drop the cold sleeves into the aluminum and they are good to bore. BTW the 250 sleeves are available (I have spares) but contrary to some statements they require boring to the STD pistons. ........lm

Dick, I found them on evil bay. I heated the cylinder to 200 degrees, as LM suggested, and the liners cam out with a light tap. They appear to have a coating of something on them. Do you suggest coating them before reinstalling new liners? What do you coat them with ?
