Looking at buying a restore project

Post by hawker74 » Mon Apr 16, 2018 5:24 pm

Hi everyone, thanks for allowing me to join this great forum! I’m looking for a little advice; I am considering buying a CB77 I came across as a restore project. The asking price is $550.
It’s very dusty and been stored for 30 years but looks mostly complete. I’m trying to sort out the year of the bike. The seller advertised it as a 1960 but from what I can see it’s a 66 or newer. The serial number is CB77–1045713. Does anyone know how to determine the actual year? Any other advice? Good price? Run? Lol
Thanks very much!

Welcome to the forum.

Yes , you're right. A '61 bike would have '11' at the beginning of the chassis number.

Yours would be post '65 and '66 would be a good guess. Honda stopped using year designations after '65.

Under the tank there will be a white tag on the wiring harness which gives a date of manufacture for the harness.

Good price if it is all there.

Do you any pictures of the bike?

Is the bike registered to the owner and does it turn over or is the engine seized? I assume the bike does have keys?

If you re willing to put the time and money into the bike it could be a good project.

I am in the same boat but, I inherited a Superhawk from my late uncle...the VIN is close to yours...CB77-10429xx and with the responses I have received from various sources...I am dating my Superhawk as a late 1966.
1966 and 1967 had a few different features...if we know the production numbers for 1967, we could work backwards with the numbers....
I have been in contact with Bill "MrHonda" Silver, who has help out a great deal !

$550 for a complete bike, even a non-runner, sounds good to me. I’d go for it. Mine with a frame number a few thousand earlier has a 1966 harness tag.

Thanks for the input on your frame number...that just reassures me that my CB77-10429xx is a 1966.
