stripped screws on engine

Post by bmarshall629 » Mon Jan 14, 2008 7:43 am

I'm traing to take the whole engine apart, and during the process I stripped a few of the screws that are in there like no other!! I attempted to use a "screw out" tool and it worked for a few but made a few more worse. Does anyone have any ideas or special drill bits that work. Looking for anything here.

thanks

Which specific screws are we talking about? Can you post some pics?

it's the screws on the clutch cover, If I really need to add photos I will but I'll try to avoid that hassle

Best thing to use right from the beginning is an impact screwdriver. One of those that you hit with a hammer.

If they are already stripped you might try a vise grip on the head if you can get at it. I have also drilled the head off of the screw. Start out small and work your way up.

Stripped screws

Try a sharp center punch on the edge of screws.Start a spot on the screw to jar it loose in the direction to loosen the screw. It has worked for me many times.

Sounds like the screws were not, in fact, stripped, but that the heads were broken off??
