CL77 aluminum polishing

Post by 180degree » Fri Nov 03, 2017 7:39 am

Does anyone know what the correct finish is for the aluminum parts on a CL77. I am talking about the brake and clutch levers, lever perches, handlebar mounts, throttle housing, front and rear wheel hubs, and front fork lowers. Did these parts have a shiny finish from the factory or were they just the dull aluminum color? I've seen parts both ways on restored or fixed up bikes. Is this just a matter of opinion of what to do with these?

Mine is a custom build though IMHO polish is the way to present the restoration.

Finish

Pretty sure that all the parts you mention would originally have been polished (but NOT to a mirror finish) and then lacquered.

Side covers would have been painted and certainly NOT mirror polished either but hey, it's your bike, do what you want with it, just make sure that you RIDE it!!

What DJM said. Polished but not overly polished.
