hardware?

Post by eddy7 » Fri Oct 13, 2017 11:14 am

new to the site but have a question for anyone. years ago there where upgrade kits available to change all phillips screws for caseings and such to internal wrenching {allen] head screws. question is are they still out there and where does one get it? Just starting my restro project on my 66 cl 77 and i'am going to need them. i know lowes and or home depot has a good selection of metric hardware but the long ones are going to tuff to find. Any help would be great THANKS

First, see if you have a nearby dedicated industrial bolt and nut supplier that sells to the public. That might be an easy way out. Check alloyboltz, com for their polished stainless CB77 bolt kits. They're reasonably priced. Whenever using stainless fasteners, coat the threads with something to prevent galvanic reaction with the aluminum engine parts. I've had good results with a moly based assembly lubricant, some folks use a copper based lube, and there are other similar products popular for marine applications. Regards, Chase

Thanks Chase for the intel. I'am a retired aircraft/marine mechanic over forty years and know all about lubing threads with reguard to alum fittings. Hope the sun is out down there.Keep in touch.

These are not the HEX screws, but Tim at Classichondarestorations.com does sell engine case screw sets. Check this page out:

(Disclaimer) I have not used this set, but I have bought from Tim before.
