What are the correct tires for a 1962 CL72 250 Scrambler?

Post by gltrench » Mon Jan 07, 2008 1:30 am

Hey Guys,
I'm restoring a 1962 CL72 250 Scrambler. I'm trying to make this as correct as possible and I'm having trouble finding the right tires. Manuals seems to show a Dunlop K70 looking tire but Dunlop no longer makes them in the correct sizes. My bike has original "Dunlop Universals" which may also be correct, which are also unavailable from Dunlop. I intend on riding this bike, so I need new tires. I really don't want to put Cheng Shens on this bike, any suggestions? Thanks

The bike wasn't issued with K-70 tires. It came with the ones you have until sometime in the 1967 issue they were changed to Bridgestone Universal and some of those had white lettering. ..........lm

CL72/77

The only tires I can remember were the Trial Universals. Sometimes the buyer would put on the Dunlop K70s as an option as the bike was only a psuedo off road bike. I have a couple of Chen Shin copies of the trials tires for my bikes. Four CL77s and one CB77 for parts, one 1982 CBX 6cyl sporter and a 1968 Suzuki TC200 twin ( scrambler, ha!!)

Has anyone tried a 3.25-19 Dunlop K70 on the front of a CL72/77? Apparently, it's the only 19 inch K70 Dunlop still makes. I found some original "universals" but am nervous to ride on old tires....Any thoughts that would help me keep Cheng Shins off of my bike? (no offense to Cheng Shin riders...)
