Bolt strength?

Post by GregMcN » Tue Sep 05, 2017 3:46 pm

Hi

I need to purchase new set screws to attach the starter clutch to the rotor and for the selector drum (6X25). As originals are not readily available does anyone know what strength these need to be?

Thanks Greg

Hi Greg,

You'd be safe with Hi Tensile 10.9

Thanks Richard

I assumed 10.9 would probably be OK but wondered if anything less would be good enough as I can only find allen headed at 10.9.... although in some way better I tend to prefer crosshead as you can use an impact driver more successfully if you have problems.

Hi Greg,

I wouldn't go lower than 8.8 if you want Phillips head.

Maybe Alan W on this site could help from the UK.

Hi Greg,
I'm not sure what grade you can get cross head screws in but I would have no problem using 8.8 or 10.9 counter sunk Allen screws and you can still use an impact driver on them if you want to.
Also you could Loctite them in and stake them with a center punch.
Cheers Al.
