Looking High & Low

Post by britman » Sat Dec 15, 2007 10:00 am

Since I did not see an intro section I will jump in here. I am an old Virginia rider who has owned and ridden about everything around. Currently in my garage are two vintage Triumphs, a Matchless, and a Rocket 3. (You can see why my handle is britman.) When I was much much younger I owned a couple of Honda 450's, one Guppy tank and one Scrambler. My first brand new bike was a Honda 160 Scrambler. Somehow through the years I missed owning a 305 and have been searching for good CL77 to restore for awhile now. I have found that these machines are getting quite collectible and some of the prices for the quality being offered are astounding. I will lurking on this site, gathering from your expertise, for when and if I find the right bike to add to my batch of British girls. Here is shot of some of my toys.

What a nice collection of vintage British iron you've got there. What's the story with the chopper, btw?

As far as trying to find a nice CL to restore, maybe try Tim McDowell at Classic Honda Restorations in Elkridge, MD. I think he might have some project bikes for sale, though not sure if any are CL's.

VL,

Thanks for the Maryland lead, I will keep the business in mind, but I think I have located a bike and I should be picking it up next week if all goes as planned. I will post some additional shots for input from you guys, as soon as I get it home. The old chopper is a 69 Bonny with an original Amen Savior frame and springer front end. About 10 miles is about as far as you want to go before giving your back a rest. She was found in a barn in the Midwest and I have tried to keep it close to the 60's style as possible.

Dogsbd,
I don't want to inundate a Honda site with British pictures, but I will slide an occasional one in now and then if anyone is interested. Thanks guys, I am looking forward to your help when I start to try to bring this mess back. I am no expert, but I think she has got some "Good Bones" as they say.

I picked up the complete CL77 and a parts bike today. It wants to run, but I have a sticking float on the left carb. Plenty of compression and I am pleased overall since I have non cut up fenders on the parts bike. OK guys comments and suggestions. I welcome any and all expertise and input.
