First steps for restoration? Pics of my 305I'm glad it's working out. Read as much as you can. Also, buy yourself a set of JIS (Japanese Industrial Standard) screwdrivers. The screws on the bike are not phillips headed. I like Vessel brand, but there are others. The Vessel "Impacta" impact screwdriver is a must have for those side cover screws. As a side bonus, the JIS screwdrivers work great on phillips head screws.
Start a thread in the restoration section so we can follow along with your progress. Are you referring to the $70 driver? Or can I get away with the $10 one?

All of my sockets and wrenches are metric, do I need to look into any other tools? The $70 set is nice, but overkill. I think I've used one once on my restoration. Nice to have, but... Your second link is what I was referring to. I find the #2 most useful. I also have a #3 that I use only once in a while, as well as a set of regular non-impact JIS screwdrivers.
https://www.amazon.com/Hozan-JIS-4-JIS- ... driver+set Start with the basics and expand as you need to. If you plan to remove the rotor to service the starter clutch or replace seals, you'll need a 16mm 1.5 pitch bolt. You might take some flat steel stock & a file to make yourself a tool for the clutch adjuster that won't chew up the adjuster like a screwdriver will. You'll need a cheap 12v test light to set the points statically, spark plug gap tool & a feeler gauge for setting the points & valves. I like to use a simple 12mm hand socket to install & remove sparkplugs. A grease gun. Someday you might want a torque wrench. I got a small start on the bike this week. I pulled the seat and tank off. There was a fair amount of gas in the tank, and when I drained it there was a fair amount of sediment in there, it's definitely somewhat rusted, so I'm going to have to add derusting the project list.
Also, the Petcock when in Res wouldn't drain any gas, nor would the two bungs for balancing the sides drain when I pulled the hoses off. So it must be pretty gummed up. I started to disassemble the Petcock, I think I'm going to replace it with an aftermarket one and keep the original for later. My girlfriend will be out of town for a whole week, so I'm hoping to get some work done. Next order will be pulling and cleaning the carb. So, derust gas tank, replace petcock, clean carb, clean the oil filter. I'm going to start a restoration log as you suggested, but I wanted to add this until I did.
