Does this battery work? 65 CA77

Post by jstark » Thu Jun 15, 2017 1:59 pm

Hi there,

I have a 1965 Dream 305, I believe that makes it a CA77. It has a dead battery on it, but I'm not sure it's the correct one for this bike. It's a BikeMaster BB9L-B https://bikemaster.com/conventional-battery-7720.html

Is there a preferred replacement battery, or should I get another one of these?

Thanks!

I have had good luck with the sealed Motobatt MB9U. There available on eBay.

12n9-3a has the correct left hand negative and I just installed one of these:

https://www.amazon.com/WPS-Conventional ... B003CJQMF8

for $30 shipped.

The "early" dreams took a different size battery, so you may want to double check the battery box dimensions just to be sure. Also, mine does not have the tool tray, so I'm not sure about the correct height dimension for one that does. (The 12n9-3a is 5-1/4" L x 3" D x 5 1/2" H)

The motobat Tim recommended is reversible so terminal orientation is not an issue.

I have found out that my bike is actually a 64, does that make any difference?

Yours would take the early battery. Here is an old post that talks about the battery on the 2nd page.

Here is a post on an alternate battery.
