CB77 Kick start shaft bushes.

The two that are in the outer casing. They appear to be made from a Tufnol like material.
Very little wear apparent when measuring but the shaft flops about like a prick in a top hat, as we used to say. So are they available anywhere or should I turn up a couple out of Ph. Bronze.
Also - found a shim up against the gear face. Seemed odd. Shouldn't it really be up against the circlip on the splines.

The fiber bushing is generally unavailable as a separate part, although I did manage to get a NOS one on ebay about 5 years ago. I have not seen one since then. If you can make a bronze unit, it will last a lot longer. Just make sure that it has the lubrication hole in the middle when it gets made up.

It's worth mentioning that the cover containing the bushings is prone to cracking. Honda recommends keeping them well greased to reduce the stress on the cover.

Early bikes had steel bushes and the cases were were less prone to cracking.

Bronze or steel would be an improvement over those nasty fibre things.

Thanks guys. Sorry for my delay in replying, was overtaken by life and a big funeral !
Bronze ordered and thanks for the" weak case" heads up. Will make them an easy fit.
Another questo. The gear end had a slightly dished shim up against the face.
Should it there. Is it to take up end float. If it is what should be next to the spline circlip. At the moment there's nowt.
You never know what p/owners have done.

For the bronze bush, how about a good sliding fit and some loctite? You don't want it moving around in the case. I think that the steel ones may have been cast in situ.

Actually since posting I remembered I have some self lubricating nylon stuff. Tempted to try it, nothing to lose really, cept time. Unless you think otherwise.
