Clutch Cable Routing

Post by texasgrape » Thu Mar 30, 2017 8:33 am

1967 CA77: Currently my clutch cable is routed outside the frame and outside the gas tank as seen in pic. It works fine, but I see pics with the routing coming from underneath the tank where it is neatly hidden away. Anyone know the correct routing? Does it go into the frame from the headlight area, then back out again, or does it just sit along side and underneath the gas tank without going into the frame? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Over the steering lock, then between the fuel tank and the frame, then down into the case.

Thanks Seadog, I rerouted my clutch cable per your instructions and took a couple pics for others who may ask later down the road. Thanks for your help!

Looking good. I see you need a rubber grommet thingy for the wires on your horn. Most of them I've seen are so badly weathered that they look as if they've been melted. I don't know where to get them for the 305s, but CSM Restoration has them for the 450 K0 and, except for the color, it looks the same as for the Dream & Superhawk. I recently ordered one for my Superhawk and will let you know if it fits and if it might fit the Dream.

Funny, I just took it out today when I routed my cable. Yes, looks like death! (Fixing to post a new topic on brake and speedometer cable routing under appropriate heading. I think they are routed incorrectly too.

Your speedo cable looks okay. Does it go through a little clip? The front brake cable is tricky. It goes through the left fork, out, then through a clip just before the bend. See photos.

Just posted photos under Brakes. Look at mine and see. However, I am indeed missing both clips! That would take care of the paint rubbing. Will have to find some of those too. Thanks!
