Tick Over Low Revs

Post by Eljay » Tue Mar 21, 2017 12:40 pm

Hi Folks

I have just rebuilt a 305 SH and have problems with the even low rev tickover at 800 to 1000 rpm. Starts no problem and revs clean but as soon as the throttle is closed to tickover it just cuts out. I have tried carb set up with no spark plug in the other cylinder and reversed the process and then settled down the revs with both cylinders running but still cut out. Left hand cylinder seems stronger running alone. Also when running together the revs seem to hunt. What I mean by hunt is the revs go up to 2000 rpm then drop back to 1000 then it all cuts out. Starts no problem after cut out if the throttle is opened. Will not re-start with closed throttle. Is this carburetion related or do you think it is ignition coil/plug related. Have cleaned both carbs.

Thanks for any feedback.

Sounds like a plugged Pilot Jet or incorrectly adjusted Idle Mixture Screw.

Before you do anything else though, be sure the gas is fresh.

Did you sync the carbs?

Hi LM and JKV357

Thanks for the responses. I have decided to go back to basics and strip the carburetors and the ignition system. I did sync the carbs and the fuel is fresh so I guess I have missed something in cleanliness. I soft bead blasted the carbs but was sure I had cleaned them properly. Maybe not.?

Thanks for your feedbacks
Best Regards
Les
