Position of the two domed nuts on the cranks case

Post by Geoff Hastings » Sun Mar 05, 2017 9:41 am

Just started to reassemble my 1965 305 engine and realised I did not take note of which of the studs under the cranks case require the domed nuts. The engine has only two domed nuts, is this correct? Also, one of the 10mm nuts is capped with an alloy washer under it, I assume to prevent oil leak. Thanks a lot Geoff.

Actually the engine if before 1967 came with 10 cap nuts.
8 on top and 2 on the bottom in the front where there is sort of a valley. (had zinc plated copper washers also)
The other cap goes on the right middle (when engine is top down) to seal the stud at the location where oil from the pump goes to the clutch side.
Tighten but be careful you don't force the middle completely into the case hole at the stud or you will have a leak. .................lm
