How does change affect the value

Post by Ford Guy » Mon Nov 26, 2007 11:27 pm

Hey guys
I just aquired a 1966 305 scrambler. It was forgotten about in my brother in laws garage. When I was a teenager I purchased a brand new cl77 in 1967. My bike back in the day was red frame silver tank. This one was black frame silver tank (but has been painted ugly blue). My question is am I hurting the value if I restore this bike and paint the frame red and silver tank/fenders? Also if I change the brakes over to the larger 8" will that affect the value being as it did not come from the factory that way.

Thanks

Jon

I'm not an expert in bike values as sometimes it's a matter of personal preference but if the '66 came with the smaller 6" brake system, you'll not only have to change the wheel(s) but also the forks as well as the mounting system is completely different for both versions.

I suppose the question you also have to ask yourself is 'how much value?' We're not talking a Vincent Black Shadow here, and I know that I have much much more in my bike than it's worth. So do what pleases you....modifiers unite!
