Does this count as a 305 racer?

Fantastic workmanship and interesting sound.

I picked up some CYB parts today from Bernard Saunders at the Stafford Classic Bike Show and he had one of several beautiful CR93 cranks on display that he has reproduced. The parts are made in the UK and will enable those lucky CR93 owners to use their bikes in anger again. The 'rough' finish on the con-rods is shot peening which puts the surface into compression to slow down the growth of fatigue cracks in the surface. The rods have very thin bronze bushesto give the small ends a better life, too. Beautiful work......

Bernard has a long association with Honda and has been involved in keeping many of their historic race bikes running.

As a kid I remember when he used to tear around the neighbourhood in his tuned-up mini cooper.

CB77 70's sand racer

Post by Tyson » Fri Jul 15, 2016 4:17 pm

I picked this up a few years ago. It has a ca bottom end with cb top. Engine is stuck but it makes a nice conversation piece.

Interesting bike. Those CYB megaphones are worth a packet......

Hi Guerini

Yes - you're not far from me. What parts are you looking for? If you're building a racer there are no 'originality' rules so you are able to make parts and re-purpose parts from other bikes which makes things a lot cheaper.

I retire soon so I am going to build an 8-valve DOHC CB72. Should keep me busy.... :-)

We can put up with you. The more lunatics in the asylum, the better...

I am attempting to build a circa 1965 race replica and finding parts both difficult and expensive to find, I appreciate most of you guys feel the original is the way to go and I understand that. I have previously restored a standard CB72 but now want to create a bike of my youth experience of racing at such places as Mallory etc.
Engine is currently being rebuilt by New Era in Coalville and then the rebuild starts in earnest. So many questions! Can you guys bear with me?
Just to add, I am amazed at the knowledge on this site. Long may it continue.
Note to G Man...We are local I believe...Melton Mowbray here.

CB72/77 racers

Post by GORDON BROWN » Thu Feb 15, 2018 5:34 pm

Hello Guerini7

I am another one in the "asylum" I am with G-man on this, I try to use any slightly damaged parts for the racers if possible now and try to keep good bits for restoration stuff.
What kind of parts are you still looking for ? in case I have anything.

Gordon
