Any reason why I can't put the motor on some kind of stand to prove it out while I have the rest of the bike apart for paint and what not? I was going to set up a board to mount the wiring harness and the rest of the electronics. Run it all over to the engine and do any fine tuning or anything I need to do without the frame in the way.

i see no reason why you couldn't fabricate a test stand to run the engine. add a battery , a few wires and a fuel tank and you should be ready to go

A test stand would be prety cool. I'd like to see a picture of that. Don't forget a fan for cooling! Kustommusic

Id like to see that too having done some for VW motors.
But I have to ask why the cooling fan? you dont have one when its on the bike and running Might see the need if your going to run it high RPMs but would you not need a load to?
just some thoughts.

Brad, that is something I didn't think of. Do I need to have the motor under load to work out any kinks, or can I just do some basic fine tuning to make sure it all works?? Never done something like this before, so this whole process is a huge learning experience for me.

Be sure to contact Loud Mouse before you start it on the stand, he loves to see these old engines jumping around a garage.

I just mentioned the cooling fan because the engine would be static and have no other air flow across the fins(like if you were going at road speed). Mabey over cautious on my part but why not? Kustommusic
