rear hub removal any ideas?

Post by chris305 » Wed Jun 15, 2016 8:12 pm

Hi, Trying to remove the rear hub but the nut tat is holding it in place keeps spinning. I have tried to put the wheel and axle back on to help keep it from moving but no such luck. Any good tricks on how to do this?

G'day chris305

The best time to loosen that nut is when the rear wheel is in place and locked up by the axle, but that might a bit hard for you now.

Have you tried putting a bolt thru the rear hub with a large washer either side and locking that up. Hopefully with a bit of penetrating lubricant on the large nut, this would hold it in place while you get it loosened.

Hope that works for you.

Muddy.
Thanks.

I have put the wheel back on but no luck in loosen the nut. Maybe I will try to really crank down on the axle to help hold it. And yes lots of penetrating oil so far for the last week +

You could try applying heat with a propane torch.

I am a big believer in heat, as in red hot heat to loosen stuck fasteners. There is also a product called Kroil that is by far the best penetrating lubricant in the world.
