Hi! First post.
Just got a 66 Dream 305 today! Been lurking here for awhile, looking for one seriously for a few months, wanting one for a few years.

My first time on a bike was on the back of a Honda my dad got for Christmas 66. The dealer lived across the street from us. 491/2 years ago, and I thought I remember it was a red Honda 50, my 89 year old father says it was a yellow trail 90, but I think he's confusing it with the '71 one we later had (which I rode).

Also had a 69/70 Mini Trail 50 before that. I was too young and my Dad is now too old to really remember! It MIGHT have been an S90 and not a step through at all, I recently got on a '65 Cub 50 and man are they little, don't think it could have held us both...

Never rode legally once I got my license, got a car. Used to literally dream of riding that 90 for years, finally in my 50's got a Vespa, now on my second one (250ie) and I use it to ride to work.

Getting close to retirement, so am venturing into the world of vintage bikes. I have no practical experience working on them, but am an artist by trade so figure I can learn cosmetic work at least.

This one I picked up is running well, has a pretty hacky paint job, but otherwise is solid, no rust, looks quite presentable really. Needs a battery, speedo doesn't work, missing the chain cover, aftermarket seat and at least one pipe, that sort of thing. But starts first kick, shifts smoothly, so I feel pretty good about it.

Hopefully I can learn from the wise folks here as I begin my adventure. I just want something for the nostalgia, not looking to win awards but also not a daily driver, more a summer plaything to take to a nearby geezer bike show/cookout.

Will post pics when I get the chance -

Thanks folks!
Here's another pic, soon to be followed by many newbie questions.

It runs pretty well, "cold" (it's pretty warm here today) started just now on third kick, starts on first one once warm (electric start is there but not working, missing button on handlebars for one thing!), but could idle better.

Once I get the title transferred, have it registered with a plate, and stick a battery in it (hopefully all tomorrow), the fun can begin!

Any advice on a brand of battery?

Licensed, titled, battery in...
Light works (the hack means no hi beam of course), rear brake light a go, surprisingly good horn.

First really dumb newbie question.
What are the 5 key positions?

Is all the way down a steering lock? If so, mine seems to be broken.
Then I guess off, start no lights, lights, but what's the top? On this baby it kills the engine.

BE gentle...
;-)

Thanks!
