cl77 running problems

half way through a restoration here in the UK of a 1965 cl77 I seem to have hit a big snag(and beginning to think I'm out of my depth doing this as a first project). I've replaced the entire ignition system except the stator with new parts and the carbs seem to be working and the timing is spot on however..... when we get it running it dies after a short run of about half a mile or 5 mins if you like. when it's running right it sounds great but issues start it starts to only fire one side then shortly after it cuts out all together. then won't start again. the fuel delivery seems to be inconsistent. by that I mean sometimes the plugs are soaked sometimes there dry but that may be a result of me flooding it trying to get it started (I was thinking I may need to put smaller jets in as its running really rich after plug inspection but I'm not an expert). the carb kit on it is this one https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/261585604210 and the bike has straight through pipes and aftermarket original style air filters. I'm at a complete loss as to why it won't run properly and would welcome sugestions from more experienced people. thanks for you any help in advance Mike UK Mike
When it stops have you tried undoing the tank filler cap? The air vent may be blocked creating a vacuum in the tank. Carb repair kits are often very inconsistent and you need to check that the kit contains jets and needles which match the originals. G

I did try that but it doesn't make any difference and the bike won't restart. it only restarts once the bikes rested a while the battery if fully charged and the plugs are completely cleaned. although I have ordered a replacement cap just in case as the fuel leaks a bit from the seal.
it may be worth noting that there is an extra fuel feed on the Petcock and all info I found suggested I block it of so I have but I question if this is actually correct? jets are marked as 130 main jet and 29 on the slow if memory serves me right but I'd have to pull them apart to be 100%.
If the engine will start after sitting for a while I'd start at the GAS valve and check for FLOW.
Pull the carb banjo bolts and be sure they are clean. (and screen removed) Check that the floats are set correctly and when you have the bowl removed on them open the tank valve and check for flow. (If you have tubing on the vent at the bottom of the carb bowls remove them) I set all the carbs I rebuild for members at 135 and 42. ..................lm
