Greetings. I just bought me a used dream. No idea what year it is. Hoping by the pic someone might be able to help me out. Its in what I suppose is OK condition. It was running till a year or so ago he said. It has compression, but the wiring looks to be kinda toast. Its all mickey moused as far as that goes. I wouldn't trust it to put power to it without lighting myself or the bike on fire.
I know it needs work, and I still haven't decided if I am going to do a total resto, or make it my summer fun DD bike. But I do want to go over the whole thing, motor up and have everything painted/plated. I don't intend on getting rid of this anytime soon. SO I guess my first question is where I can go with the vin from the motor to see what year it is. The # is CA-77E 103950,and the frame # is CA78-103875. I don't have a title to it. But will have to do some sort of search at some point to get it registered I think. Second, what should I do first? Should I get a wireing harness (if available) and then try to get it cranked over? I want to make sure it will actually run before I tear the whole thing down. And where can one get a manual for this bike? Or is it..take apart...take pic...put back together?
So thats it so far, Im sure I am going to pummel you all with questions and pictures as I progress.

Githianki, Welcome. Looks like a great project! I can address some of your questions,1st; yes buy a new harness 2nd and most importantly; buy a repair manual for your bike. E-bay or Amazon hve been a good source for me. As far as the vin # go to the VJMC link (on this site) and find Bill Silver's article titled Carbon dating. WOOT...sort ofSo I found out its a 1963. Managed to wrangle the wireing harness out and read it there. Ugh...my 200$ find might end up being the end of me at this point..lol Entire electrical system looks to be toast, other then the stator at this point. The guy that I bought it off of butchered the hell out of it. Ordered my wireing harness, and some other goodies that I need for the electrical system. Check my build/restore for pics and my trials and tribulations...lol
Well dont give up on it at $200 you have alot of room to work with it. The wiring on this bike is not bad at all in fact it is the least of your problems if that is all you have. Looks like to me a good start to a very fun bike. I say this after today riding mine in coloradio at 61F and just loved it.Yes I too got mine running first now when it snows I will take it apart and restore it as much as I can.

D080JAELPA For a bike that has been sitting a long time, just go slow, change the fluids, fog the cylinders and try to turn the engine over gently by hand before attempting to crank it up.
