Oil Leak from tach drive

Post by davomoto » Sun Nov 18, 2007 12:22 pm

Just got my rebuilt CB77 engine running, and it is leaking oil from the center of the tach drive. I did install the washer, and have tried a different gear, but it is still leaking. I don't see where any seals or O-rings would go, except the one on the outside mount. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply! Yes, I did install the o-ring in the Outer part that bolts to the cover, and I even tried to replce that. Hopefully LM will have an idea.

LM, there's a washer that sits on top of inner gear. I changed out the housing that bolts to cover, and it seems to have cured it. Perhaps the other one was worn inside?

That shaft actually has the same type washer at both ends of the shaft.
I asked cause there is a sort of rubber gasket/seal at the location of the threaded cover and the cable end and if the rubber seal isn't there or doesn't fit/seal the area ya can have a oil leak. ...................lm

Thanks for the expert advice! I only installed one washer, on the top of the shaft. Iwill remove it, and find an exact match for the other side.
