Rebuilt fuelcock still leaks

Post by Robbie63 » Thu Apr 28, 2016 6:37 am

Took my 305 for a short run with a freshly rebuilt petcock and it leaks in the on position and reserve position.my rebuild kit had a rubber as well as a cork gasket and I used the cork gasket.has anyone had any issues with this.kinda wishing I had bought the new aftermarket petcock that I used on my baby benly as it works great, just not original .any thoughts would be appreciated .thanks rob

I rebuilt my petcock twice with two different overhaul kits and both leaked. I made a new flange and went with a non-original valve - it doesn't leak!

petcock leaks

They are tricky buggers. Everything has to be put together perfectly. Had mine apart five times until I got it right.
Are you sure you have all of the parts? Do you have the four blade part that goes on top of the petcock?
I also found the cork will swell if you soak it in gas before installing it. I ruined my cork from taking it apart so many times and went with the rubber and it's working fine.

Thanks for the replies Diane and Mike. I would really like to use the original petcock. I will take it apart again and see if I can see anything wrong. I think I used the same fuel cock that Diane used on her bike and it worked great. So that might be my last option. I paid about 70 bucks for the rebuild kit so I would like it to work. Thanks again Rob

Once again. Are you sure you have all of the parts?
