CB77 Stainless Mufflers

Post by jrs58 » Fri Nov 09, 2007 6:08 pm

I have 2 1964 CB77s and 1 1963 CB77. It appears as though the mufflers on the 1963 are not chrome, but almost look stainless? In other words, there is no pitting or rust anywhere. The rest of the bike is somewhat weathered and has surface rust. The 2 64s both have chrome mufflers. Which is correct?

jrs58, The chrome mufflers are original. The only stainless steel mufflers I know of are repops available thru Bill Silver. Assuming they look like the originals. Kustommusic

I seem to remember that Honda did make some stainless exhaust in the early production runs.
Does your magnet stick to them? If they are indeed original stainless items, they are probably worth a bit of money.
Thanks, Randy

HONDA did install STAINLESS mufflers on a run/issue of the CB77 but there was a problem at the left side just at the rear/top mount. If a person stood on that muffler as they mounted/dismounted the bike the muffler would split and was ruined. There were those who had them welded but although they worked could/would split again when stepped on. ........................lm
