Engine CL77-1036551

Post by AtomBomb717 » Sun Mar 20, 2016 1:05 pm

Hello,

I have recently acquired an engine from what I was told was a 1968 Honda Scrambler. As a hobby I clean and restore classic carbs but in this case took the whole engine and was wondering what its value may be? I was told that the previous owner had replaced the jug due to a crack in the original. There is supporting evidence of this in the extra parts that were provided such as gaskets and valves. The owner had since passed away and the engine sat for a few years but was stored indoors. Without going into great detail it could use some cleaning but is otherwise in decent shape. Grated I know I could part it out but I prefer not to when it is more collectable and as far as I can tell complete. I'm sure someone has a frame and could make good use of it.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

That ID says it was produced for mid to late '66 models...........If the barrels were replaced with the original pistons and new rings........along with anything else that may have needed attention........going prices are from $250 to $450........plus the carbs. However, unknown miles and questionable internal condition motors that turn over with the kicker......can be found at swap-meets for $100 to $200...........I don't see a kicker on your motor so assume the right-side case-cover is missing. The quality of the rebuild is suspect because of the lack of cleaning the head. A compression check would be helpful as well as a report of any rust on the exhaust valves.

Thanks for the feedback. I agree that if you're going to go through all the work to replace the jugs then why not clean them up some.
