Hi Guys,

I’m new to the forum, Just picked up my first CL77 as iv wanted one for years so thought id take the plunge and restore one. I have a very early model according to the frame and engine number but the whole lot came in bits and I’m pretty sure I have the later model wheels judging by the parts guide I had. As I’m more concerned at this stage to get the thing rolling so i can move it and concentrate on the engine can they be made to fit withought damaging or permanently altering the bike i understand the rear will work just not the front?

Mike...............welcome to the challenge. An early CL77 (1965) will have steel legs and small-brake hubs.......and both wheels will have 40-spokes.

The '66-'67 models are known as the big-brake models and share the same hubs as used on the CB450. The rear wheel will have 36-spokes but the front remained at 40. The axles are both different between the small and big-brake models.........as are the swingarms and brake linkages.

When you know for sure what you have..........post the frame and motor #s.........we can help you sort the parts and maybe source a few for you. I happen to have a titled 1965 roller with a motor that turns and a title. It could be for sale. The original wheels are quite nice.

Hi there thanks for the info. I should have mentioned I'm in the UK so makes part less exccesable without paying a rediculous amount in shipping. The frame number puts it in July 1965 and engine number hasn't been sorted yet as I'm trying to use the best bits from several engines.

The bike came to me in bits so it's all abit of a muddle but the rear wheel went straight on. There's no play in the axel at all, the spacings seem to be correct and the rear brake arm lines up perfectly. So this confused me

Then the front went straight on. Again axel not a problem not loose. I'm missing the speedo drive so can't judge the spacing yet but best I can tell all I need do is mount a strut in the bolt hole in the drum and then to the lower fender mount and that should work. But how this is I don't know because a you suggest the should be different.
