Bottom line: Both camps are correct here don't discard either one.
I had no idea my comment about the electronic ignition would ignite such fun debate. For the record, I ride the bike a lot and have had little trouble before or since putting the electronic ignition on. I appreciate everyone's expertise and advise. Going to stick with the electronic for now... but you never know. Thanks to everyone for contributing.... to be continued.
