How often do you change your oil. What type do most people use. (10w30)?

I have always used Castrol 30W with good results in my 68' CA77.

Hi. It was recommended that I use 20w30 in my 67, CA77 Dream. I changed it recently and it was running well but now we have cold weather.. Below 50-65 (not that cold, I know) And it has run very sluggish. Tough get it up to speed in each gear. Should I be using a different oil in the colder weather?

oil

Back in the day, cooler weather usually dictated a lower viscosity oil (such as the 20w-30 you are using) in general motor applications. That was mainly for start up wear as thicker oil was harder on cold engines.

I suspect you may have another problem. Especially if this has happens after the bike has warmed up.

Thanks for getting back to me. Any ideas? There are other days when it runs great and is very responsive. I'm not a mechanic and am learning as I go. Thanks again. J

Just guessing

Post by hondadreamca77 » Wed Jan 06, 2016 11:57 am

Few things to look at:

First- I would check the spark plugs (should be nice tan color on ends) as an indicator of whats going on with the engine / fuel / combustion. White-too lean, Black/oily-burning rich.

Second- I would look for an intake leak (carb spacer and O ring mount to engine).

Third- I would check spark. Should be nice and blue.

Lastly- Check fuel line that good flow is getting to carb. (petcock screen may need cleaning).
