1964 CL 72 oil leak1964 CL 72 oil leakA new oil leak has developed after some clutch work and two oil changes done to reduce the amount of sludge in this bike I am sorting out. It appears to be leaking out of the alternator. I have attached a pic. The fresh oil flows down the stator drum, runs along the bottom and leaks out from behind the kickstarter cover over the large nut in the bottom right of the pic.
Has anyone had a similar issue? Would the suspect be the main seal?
Re: 1964 CL 72 oil leakThere is a crank seal behind the rotor/stater. ................lm
Get the proper seal and remove the:
Stater, rotor and seal. Use a sharp knife to bevel/angle the outer area of the case where the seal installs. Make sure area is clean of grease/oil and tap the new seal into the case in a circular direction. ....................lm
Would this appear to contain the proper bit(s)?
I was concerned this job would be beyond my abilities, as I was thinking I would have to tear into the bottom of the engine. However from your description it sounds very doable... Thanks again! http://www.ebay.com/itm/Honda-CL72-250- ... r9&vxp=mtr
BTW this engine has been apart.
It has what you need to fix the crank leak and because you will get one replace the seal at the main shaft where the clutch release rod is. ....................lm
Anyone willing to share their techniques for removing this rotor? Stator came off easily, but this drum with the magnets seems a bit tricky.....
Also behind the drum is a black round cover the shaft passes thru...I am assuming that I will have to remove this cover to get to the seal, and if so what is the best way to remove?
