More accurately, removing the baffles noticeably increased high-rpm performance in top gear. Now the bike runs much better and faster on the highway. How much faster is hard to say because my speedometer is rusted solid. Perhaps even a 2 HP gain on top end. Been riding it to work regularly -- too much fun. Do what you've always done and you'll get what you've always had.
NOS mufflersI just found this post. I am the person who bought these mufflers They are nice. These are the EXACT same mufflers that I won the bid on 2 months earlier on ebay. They were declared lost by the USPS and showed up again on ebay. I bought them again for the 2nd time. I contacted the seller then to see where he got these mufflers, he said that he bought them at the USPS auction that are held twice a month for lost or unclaimed packages in Atlanta Ga. What a experience! BTW I was able to recognize them by comparing the distinctive markings on the original 50 year old boxes.
