Dick

He's retired now and enjoying his bikes. He's only about 1/2 hr from me and we've traded one or two bits and bobs. He showed me his switch mod on my last visit but I had to play a 'Guessing game" on where the parts came from before I was told how it was done.

I have a good friend who worked at the Birmingham school of Jewelry where they do lots of investment casting. We have pondered copying those switch castings, and getting a few made.

Easy enough to misunderstand when the parts are not in front of you. For me I traveled this road not long ago so my memory is still fresh and the parts are within reach. : )

Good to hear Dennis is still around, used to swap an email or two with him years ago on the VJMC list. I think I sent him some parts years ago too.

Good to hear he's enjoying retirement, tell him "Hi" from me. I doubt he'd remember me but who knows! I think I sent him the cable fitting from a CL rear brake cable that attached to the backing plate and a rusty CL brake pedal for the price of postage???

I stumbled on this SL90 switch thing by pure accident a couple years back. Had been thinking of welding up the start button hole on the CB switch for my CL for a few years. Was going thur booths at a swapmeet and found that SL90 switch, $3.00. Came back to our booth and showed it to Paul Strassmaier wondering what the hell it was from. Paul by chance had an SL90 for sale at our booth...............the rest is history!

I'm sure that switch casting would be well received. Originals are very spendy.

I did a successful trial fit of the David Silver indicators today and they look the part. Now to get an SL90 switch to do away with the unsatisfactory one in the kit.

Looking good Gordon! Your post has inspired me to work on my switch for the CB. Filed, sanded, and buffed off the "OFF-ON-OFF and will stamp "L & R" with 1/8" letter stamps. Dug up the innards from a Dimmer/Horn switch. The winker set I have looks something like this one on ebay:

Hi Dick,

The winkers you found certainly look the part. Picking up the SL90 switch for $3 was big win. as you saw the going rate for a NOS one on E-Bay is $99, a bit too much for a Scotsman to pay!

This is what I wrote earlier (as Jensen)

I saw a lot off different winker switches, left side, right side, and all appears original to me. Here I picture my original dutch switches, strange, but original CB72. On my left side of the handle bar there is my light switch, printed with a D (Dimlicht, dutch for low beam) and a G (Grootlicht, dutch for high beam). This switch also holds the gas handle or twist grip as you call it.
In the Netherlands the winker switch is sometimes on the left side, sometimes on the right side. Late style switches are always left sides by regulations (you cant not control the twist grip and switch the winkers on and off with one hand, at least that's the official statement.

There is also a cut away in both switches (see pictures below), I don't know if this is original or not, but I guess not.
