Anyone had success in re-tuning the CB 77 horn?

The reason I ask is that having just completed the re-wiring & everything working fine, but the horn simply 'clicks'.

After stripping it it seems to me that there is only a single-screw adjustment, & after hooking it up to a car battery & fiddling with the screw, all I can get is nothing at all or a very feeble 'squeak'!!

Is there a set procedure for tuning these?

I,ve actually fitted a brand-new modern bike horn for the time being, but I,d like the original if possible.

I fixed one for a friend but yours looks different. Are the contacts clean? It's just a case of getting it to resonate. The leaf spring on his had come adrift but your looks fine.

Has anyone ever fitted a brand NEW motorcycle horn INTO an old Honda horn "Case"??

FYI... the horn on my Dream also just 'clicked'. I cleaned the points and now it beeps. However, it is just a small/faint beep and would be better to just YELL "Get outta my way"!!

That's strange - mine is loud enough to be obnoxious!

After lots of 'adjustments' it still just manages a pathetic 'peep!

I will completely strip it, clean & refurbish where possible, if that doesn't work then I too have already thought about somehow fitting the original dome/cover around the new modern unit.

Completely stripped it, how on earth did companies make money in the 60's, never seen so many parts just for a horn!!
The contacts where totally black ( with age? ), they & everything else was cleaned, but boy oh boy what had I let myself in for, TWO HOURS to get that little contact/insulators/springs & screw back together between a 15 mm metal bracket, it VERY nearly went in the bin several times!!
Then came the worse bit, it could have been re-assembled several ways due to all the contacts & insulators etc. so was it right.
Hooked it up to 12v & got a 'click', so it WAS right, a few mins fiddling with the adjuster & it now lets out a right old 'parp'!!
So we got there in the end, & if any of you out there have stripped & re-built these, very well done, & I salute you, if not, then be prepared for a few seconds pulling it apart & a couple of hours swearing trying to get it back together !!
