What motors will interchange on a 65 305 Dream frame?

Post by shepardleec » Fri Sep 18, 2015 11:49 pm

Hello. While restoring my 64 I came across a VERY rough 65 model for sale with no motor or title that I picked up for $100. Since it has a decent frame my son thought he might try to make something out of it. So does anyone have any knowledge of another motor that will work on a 305 frame? I'm a machinist by trade so having to fabricate some brackets or parts is not a big deal. Thanks for any info!

The easiest option is to go for one of the 250 or 305 engines from the Dream's sister models:

CB72 (250). or CB77 (305)

CL72 (250) or CL77 (305)

Both of those have twin carbs and different kickstart arrangements.

Even easier is to look out for another Dream engine....

You could fit almost anything if you wanted. A small 4-cylinder would be interesting but the Dream suspension and brakes are prett horrible. How about a modern 250 single?
