1967 CL77 winkers add on???

Post by bcwigger4912 » Thu Jul 16, 2015 9:41 am

Hi. Just bought a really nice 1967 CL77 and would like to see if there is any way to put some winkers on it. Probably not realistic (or affordable) to find all the parts from a domestic or CL300 so wonder if there is an appropriate aftermarket set anyone has experience with. My bike is very original and I do not want to make any permanent modifications.

I'm brand new to the forum and look forward to future exchanges.

Anyone near Des Moines, IA?

Thanks much.

Honda Trail 90 and other small models, along with Yamaha DT-1 and H.D. Sportster models from the early 70s had units that clamp to the handlebars.......no drilling required. For rear units, numerous styles are available that are best mounted to a custom alloy tab or the stamped-steel units from CB350-450 models that will affix to the rear-fender mounts or the shock-bolts. Be sure to keep the lens at some distance from the muffler.

You can use a separate switch mounted on either side........or replace the horn & High-low unit with a Trail-90; CB-CL-SL-350 or 450 unit that includes a turn-signal switch. Those units have internal wiring for the bars.............but with a little work on the switch housing can be made to work with the external wiring on the CL77.

More creative installations include bar-end units from BMW and light-weight LED units for the rear that could attach to the license-plate bracket.

Thanks OldSrambler. I'm fairly handy but no mechanic and have no experience working on these things (yet). I've seen a few possibilities/ideas listed on Ebay but want to be sure I know what I'm getting and doing before I buy anything. Where does the juice come from to power the signals? I don't even have the bike yet. Will be shipped soon so I haven't been able to play with it at all.

Hi,
David Silver Spares have a small set of winkers with handle bar mounted switch. I have bought a set but not installed them yet. Seem good quality for the price. I want to have them on the bike to improve safety as I plan to ride the bike on a regular basis.
The CB350/450 switch unit sounds like a good mod.

Power will come from the white wire in the harness that is not used on US bikes. You will have to connect it to the ignition switch where the headlight wire is powered. Each 'winker' will have to have a ground.
