Timing chain marks
Yes, understand the position of the master link is irrelevant; obviously, cam timing mark is. I'm thinking it's off by one. If you mentally rotate the cam CW, paying attention to the "0", one tooth would put it in alignment with the center line of the crank, up through the engine, and the center line of the cam. That's the way I'm visualizing it, but proof will be once I swing the chain up over the sprocket and see where the marks fall. On this particular engine, it appears that the "0" mark is dead center of the horizontal flat of the advancer plate. That being said, when everything is aligned properly, that flat should be parallel with the top of the head. Again, we'll wait until the chain gets put in place and see what we have. http://gbyoung2.smugmug.com/Motorcycles ... 014-X2.jpg http://gbyoung2.smugmug.com/Motorcycles ... 016-X2.jpg
Finally had a chance to get back on the 305. Feel pretty comfortable with the cam timing, but would like a final critique before I fully install the master link and button it up - just to be sure:
