Hello Dave

Just getting a chance to look over the pictures of your bike. Its good to see more "new" old race stuff.
A few observations / guesses, from the pictures of the gearbox I would say its a Nova one but an early type, I think the actual gears are the same as the later ones but the selector drum and more importantly the mechanism was changed on the later ( current ? ) boxes to a system similar to the CB350K ( this also reverses the change pattern ) as far as I know the mod. was first done to prevent over-selection ? problems with the early Nova change drums which were heavier, possibly solid items, compared to std. and original Honda 5 speed drums.
I would think that the setup on yours is to help stop the over-selection problem but like others have no idea from the pictures how it works !
You don't see many CB72/77's racing in the UK now but at one time the CRMC ran a up to 63 class which they could run in and before they re allowed the K's in they were about the only Honda you could use in the Classic Manx.
I hope this all makes sense and hopefully some of the others on the site may have more info for you.

Started re-building the frame

Thought I would make a start on re-building the frame while I wait for the casings to come back from the aqua-blasters.

Couple of pics so far.

Some good progress happening there. I look forward to seeing the bike up and running. I've not had much time for bike projects lately so I am a little envious.... :-)

Any more info on the history of your bike?

Drawn a blank at the moment on its past life I'm afraid, which is a shame. (If only it could talk)

I have the swinging arm and shocks back on her now also. Just waiting on the casings coming back to start the engine rebuild.

Visited Alan a week or so ago. He kindly shown me around his beautiful collection and gave me a few pointers.

I will keep you posted with updated pics as I progress.

Swinging arm in place. The gear change conversion was a little bit of a puzzle. When I refitted it it was very stiff to move. Bit of head scratching and after installing it and taking it off a few times found that it was tight on the frame. I had to remove a bit of meat from the cross bar. It must have been like that before as I hadn't altered the fittings in anyway.
