Mike

The one with the chamfer is for a 1961 gearbox. The one with the thin flange is a NOS one from David Silver ( a couple of years ago) for later gearboxes. The early gear has a chamfer to match the bush. You might have an early gear in your 'box.

How dam confusing these Honda's are in all my years of restoring bike and it is a lot of bikes and a lot of years this Honda comes out top as the most confusing of all by a long way, yet they are dam lovely bikes but I wished I had not bothered one needs very deep pockets.

To me it seems the stock of parts world wide has dried up one would have been ok 10 years ago restoring a early 1960's Honda.

All I wanted to do was ride the bike and for the last 2 years it has had to be worked on, and this bike won award at the Classic Bike Show at Stafford some years ago pity they did not look inside it.

Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the world of Classic Bike ownership and the perils of the "Professional Restorer".....

It's a bumpy old road.

I had a CB77 with high wear on the kick start bush and these were impossible to find in the UK so I had 10 made. What I learned though is that high wear on this bush means far more serious wear inside the gearbox, the KS bush is just a symptom. The advice given to me is that if the kick start bush has heavy wear then a gearbox overhaul is necessary meaning engine out and crankcase split and that is an advise given to buyers, if the bush is badly worn then walk away.

I'm not an expert on the boxes but I can find out where the real problem area is from the gent who put in my Nova box (and I believe had a big hand in the design of it) and removed my old gearbox which had a badly worn kick start bush, a floppy kick start and a badly worn gear box bearing.

The crankcases have to be split to change the kickstart shaft bush anyway. It's just a case of checking all the other parts when it's apart.

Did Gerry fit your Nova 'box?

Mike

Have you checked the Kickstart Shaft for wear where the rollers run on it?

Mine had some damaged rollers but the shaft was OK.

I fitted NOS -

K/start spindle (shaft)
K/start pawl
K/start pawl pin

K/START spindle bush 923931-259-010 on order from CMS

I need a new low gear bush (23933-259-010) will try and get one made one purchased from http://www.classichondarestoration.com/ ... od_66.html shows a lot of wear after some 300 miles. pic here http://www.honda305.com/forums/k-s-bush-t7635349.html TOP ONE

G/box rollers 12 off 5X6.5 All look good all gears look OK including 1st gear (low) I have spare gears that are just as good.

I belive it's the low gear bush that is the problem with the low gear wobbling.
