CA77 Rear Sprocket

Post by Dogsbd » Thu Jul 31, 2008 8:51 pm

Should the rear sprocket on a CA77 be 27 teeth or 29?

Advantages of / disadvantages of / personal experiences with each?

Thanks!

The rear sprocket on my CA77 has 29 teeth. I have no idea about the advantages and disadvantages between the two. Mine is still in pieces and has not been on the road yet.

Mine is currently a 29 tooth as well and it also hasn't been on the road yet, ridden by me at least.

Mine is worn real bad and I've yet to find a good 29 tooth replacement, but I did run across a NOS 27 tooth which prompted my question.

I know 27 tooth would maybe lower my cruising revs but it would also make it tougher going up hill, I am wondering if it might be too much so.

Sprocket specialties sell sprockets for the CAs, and you can get any number of teeth that you want. They are 520, not 525, so you'd need to change both sprockets and chain, which is a good idea anyway, or they will do custom sprockets for just a few bucks more. here's a link.

What about a sprocket from a ca72/250cc if you find one?I will have to check the but I think they are 30 or 31 teeth, but would have to look at one to be sure.
