Chain Guard DIY.

Post by deafanddiabetic » Mon Apr 20, 2015 11:07 am

During my CA72 build, I sold off the original chain guard cases (made a pretty penny, too) because my old rotted mufflers weren't functional anymore and I replaced them with EMGO Dunstall Replicas.

I really like them, I like how they look, sound, and they were affordable.

The only problem is that the only way that I can comfortably mount them makes it impossible to attach either chain guard case. Hence, why I sold them.

Has anybody done an aftermarket chain guard or finagled from another bike? I just put a new paint job on and don't want to constantly clean the back fender and swing arm if I can help it.

I made a chain guard for my Superhawk back in the 90's. I used a sheet of steel used for body repairs. I only made two bends and trimmed it for a good fit. I did it with hand tools and a vice. I don't have much body work experience. My scanner is acting up, but I will post a pic when I can.

Here is a scan of an old photo. I made it like a long square sided taco shell, then trimmed the bottom to my liking.

Two parts that I'm still missing is a center stand and a chain guard. Still looking for the stand but I was able to fabricate a chain guard I got off eBay that was from some old Suzuki. The problem is, is that most bikes are left side drive and if you try to put a left side chain guard on a right side drive bike (CL) there's usually a cut out that doesn't match and exposes the chain. I made some brackets, bent them a little and pop riveted them on. Fits like a glove.
