Probably a mistyping. At the time the recommendation was MS, DG or DM which are obsolete API service ratings.

Jensen, how often are you changing the filter in the Cappellini setup? I had it installed in my bike late last year, and just had the Cappellini 6mm oil pump kit installed as well (the bike can now accommodate almost 3 qts). Haven't yet changed the filter, think I might have only a few hundred miles on it so far. Running Shell Rotella 15w40 synth blend.

Hi Vince,

Every 1000 km !, or every year what comes first. Filters are dead cheap, and vulnerable when they are clogged.

I wash out the old filter to see what's in it, making sure nothing strange is going on inside. Seems to be unnecessary, but already more or less saved an CB450 engine once.

Jensen

btw Tim Allman, I didn't forget your question, just have to find the time to answer it as good as possible.

Every 1000km? Every 620 miles? The filter really replacing after only that period of time? Is that what Franco recommends? Seems like an awfully short period of time to me.

Indeed. That is the recommendation in my CB77 owner's manual.

Tim, we're talking about two completely different filtration systems. The system I'm referring to is the Cappellini paper element 'cartridge' oil filter kit, along with the 6mm Cappellini oil pump for CB77. So not only do you have the benefit of a replaceable paper oil filter (Suzuki-type), but you have the increased capacity of the 6mm oil pump (probably allows almost an additional quart of oil). I seem to recall that Franco Cappellini was suggesting filter changes every 2000 miles, but I could be mistaken. That's why I was thinking that changing the oil filter every 620 miles seemed a bit too frequent, but of course you can't be doing any damage by ensuring a fresh filter in your system.
