Its a '67...........notice the front seat mount.

The CL frame will not accommodate the central single carb of the CA motor. Also, you would have to change the oil-pump to get the bottom CL mounting-lug, discard the starter motor and starter clutch, acquire a plate to cover the holes, change the side-case covers, and exchange the head for a twin-carb unit with the CL top-plate for the mounting lug. Now we have just begun.........all of this is just nuts and bolts.........You would then have to mount the CA camshafts in the CL head. If you have the timing wheel and dial-indicators to accomplish the task.........go for it.

My honest opinion (advice)..............If you want a do-it-yourself project, sell what you have for likely a profit (keep the wheels and handlebars if they are clean) and look for a more complete CL77. If you want to do a complete restoration and are looking for value.............the older models usually get higher prices than the '67s.

Well damn, thats unfortunate :(

I'm not necessarily trying to do a full restore, I just have always loved this bike and would most likely keep it for quite a while. I'm also a college student so a full restore is not exactly in my budget right now.

So from what your telling me, the CA engine would most likely be more costly and more of a headache to modify than it would be to just get the original engine?

Alright well its settled then. I think I'll keep everything else and try to find a replacement engine being that the rest of the bike is solid...I've actually found a replacement already nearby and he (hopefully) will consider doing a trade.

Thank you for your input OldScrambler as I could not find any definite answers elsewhere.

I'm confused, why would you need a timing wheel and dial-indicators to swap the CA cam into a CL head?

...............just to be sure the cam and timing marks are aligned at TDC...............I suppose you could do it without the gauges if you trust the marks.
