Well G-Man, I was about to defer to your logic. No mystery about an early speedo (as long as it works), but difficult to know what I would be getting with a drive unit.
Then I found an E-Bay seller who checked his and described the rotation. Difficult to be certain not seeing it for myself, but at 1/3 the cost of a decent speedo it seemed worth a gamble. Shoul be here in about 10 days.
Wish me luck.

Yes, good luck with that. Please let us know if you can identify the later one by appearance only.

I could not find anything exterior that would indicate CW or CCW rotation.
Luckily the E-Bay seller understood me and got it right.
What is the large Phillips screw for? Lubricating?

What's your recommendation LM?
Grease?
White lithium grease?
90 gear oil (I'm a big fan)?

Unless you remove the part and flush/clean the old grease and just want to add some I recommend dinosaur grease.
If you do clean it I recommend High Temp Grease.(BLACK). ..........lm

Will go with my old standby - Belray Waterproof Grease
