When I picked up my 66 several years ago, and after finally getting the thing to run decent, I too was faced with no mufflers. One of the fellows on this forum (e-steve?) suggested this very inexpensive option to baffle down the straights; Get to an VW shop and buy a pair of cheap, chromed exhaust tips...under $20 I think, then grind off the weld that holds the baffle in place and insert them into the tail pipes. Danged if it didn't give me the just muffled sound I was looking for to keep the neighbors happy. Once convinced it sounded good (as a Scaarambler should), I tapped them a bit further into the pipe. They're snug enough that they're not gonna blow out, and I couldn't have been happier. Oh, by the way, good to hear Mikes thing turned out to be legit after all, a nice bike you'll have there to do those fun rides you mentioned earlier.
Want pristine CL77 (I know -- who doesn't!)
I am happy to report that Mike realized the joy of RIDING a perfect CL77 -- before he sold his. Could not of happened to a better guy. Hallelujah. That puts me back in the market for a motorcycle. I love the CL77 but it will be hard to find one as good as Mikes. I'll keep looking, but I may have to hop on down to the cycle center and get me an 865cc Triumph Scrambler.

Yeah, when the pipes are RIGHT even the neighbors love them. I ran my Scrambler pipes straight from day one and never got a complaint. Congratulations on your sweet sounding pipes. Given the scarcity of cherry CL77s for sale it looks like I'll be monkeying around with some 865cc Triumph pipes soon. I'll keep you posted. William
It looks like I will grab a Triumph Scrambler pronto because I'm all psyched up after the near miss on the CL77. Can't bring myself to keep looking after such a fine specimen got away. I am crazy enough to own both. I suspect there are many here familiar with the Triumph given the bikes similar appeal to the CL77. I would be grateful if someone could give me the low-down on the bike. I've heard you need to tweak them like a Harley to really like them. I personally like the polished cases over the black but they do not appear to be available for 2014 and 2015. I know this is a CL77 thread and I won't make getting off topic a habit.

I know, I'm teetering on the edge of the Rabbit Hole. Finding the 'right' bike is brutal. The British upright, no-nonsense Triumph Scrambler 900 styling makes me want to ride with a bomber jacket and Ray-Bans. Was led down the path earlier by the T100R Daytona (ok, there were the flashlight under the cover peeks at the sinister black Puch 250 in the 1962 Sears and Roebuck catalogue). As you posted my delirium had me trying to track down the year and model of the attached Moto Guzzi. I figure AAA could bail me out if it should fall over. All joking aside, a pristine CL77 is worth waiting for. I guess I'll bide my time perfecting my AR. That monster Moto Guzzi is bitchin ... William
